The Boulevard car park is one of those places that hold a small treasure that only the people of the city know about. When excavations began for its construction, those in charge of the site found something completely unexpected: the remains of the fortress that protected the city until 1813. The city was sacked by Anglo-Portuguese troops, who on 31 August 1813 broke through the wall where the Brecha market is today, and after a terrible fire the city was completely destroyed.

Today we can contemplate these remains on the first floor of the car park, part of them protected by a glass wall. There are also several murals in the car park showing the evolution of the city.
And talking about the Brecha market… On the pavement in front of it, you will find red lines on the ground. They represent the exact place where the wall used to run.
